As part of this new display, we are sponsoring a special reception for the resurrected Sewer Ride by the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition!  The Sewer ride takes place Saturday, March 29th, starting at the Daly City BART and winds 12 miles near San Bruno mountain, Candlestick and the SF Bay exploring the squishy boundary between humans and H20.  It comes to a close at Reclaimed Room with a small party for the riders and anyone else who wants to join.  The riders should arrive between 3 and 4pm and the party officially goes from 4-6pm.  Beers and snacks provided!  Join US!!  Sign up for the ride here:

Lady Saphire reinvents the world through works made from melted plastics, resins and trash remnants that are unusually striking and oddly familiar.

Get to know her before the show by checking out her artist profile video above!

Solis invites us into the graphic universe of Wildwood, where characters made from reclaimed materials spring to life and provoke questions of togetherness, tolerance and utopian ideals.

Get to know him before the show by checking out his artist profile video above!

Alternative Cosmos at the Reclaimed Room features work by artists Solis and Lady Saphire.  Both artists, in their own ways, create new spaces of engagement through their individual art works and compliment one another quite gracefully.

This show delves into the other worlds that exist right before our eyes and these artists bring those alternative cosmos-es to life in our next show.

Save the date!  As always, snacks and drinks are provided and the admission is FREE!

The W.at.e.r.w.o.r.k.s show will be our most ambitious with additional events including a bicycle sewer tour that ends at the Re Room on March 29th and a special screening of A Fierce Green Fire, a Sundance documentary about the environmental movement by Mark Kitchell with filmmakers in attendance (date TBA).  Next year will also see a Building REsources staff show, exploiting the talents of our very own artists who serve our customers everyday.  We are also in talks with our friendly neighbor SCRAP to host a show of their very own in our venue.  There’s more, but, we will leave a little mystery for the months to come.  Be sure to stay tuned to all the ongoings and goings on of the Reclaimed Room by visiting and signing up for this blog!

We wish everyone an incredibly safe, happy and prosperous start to 2014.  Happy New Year!!

Samuel Fleming Lewis

Samuel Fleming Lewis

Samuel Fleming Lewis is part of the design team at InStudio located on the port of San Francisco.  He will be exhibiting some of his more personal works as part of the Reclaimed Room’s next installation, The LIVING Show-Style & Sustainability.  Lewis reconfigures remnants of his past into artwork for the future.  He demonstrates incredible style and engages deeply with sustainable art practices, recycling broken mirrors, repurposing old media like Ebony and Interview magazines, and finding new life for leftover work products like furniture and architecture hand drawings and photographs remade into lanterns, mirrors and other unique designs.  Delve further into his process and personality by viewing our latest artist profile video.

Tony Hurd

Tony Hurd

Tony Hurd is a master builder.  His extraordinary talents explore reuse in dynamic and intuitive ways.  This exhibit brings forth his innovative living pod solutions, fanciful beehives and metal art that reflects serenity and family in vivacious ways.  Prepare for some surprises, too.  Hurd is a tornado of a artist and often whipping things together in his mind, body and soul.  He also invites you to physically engage with his work, sit, sand, relax and unwind within the pieces to truly appreciate this artist’s works.  See Hurd in action and some of the pieces that could not possibly fit in our venue in his artist profile video.

FUSIONS-Artist Profiles

Banister Light

Reclaimed Room for Environmental Arts opens a new show on September 12.  Stop by from 5-8pm for refreshments and a celebration with Fusions artists Roland Blandy and Reddy Lieb in person.  I spent time with each of them in their studios and workspaces to learn more about how they create their pieces and what inspires them.  These profiles give you to opportunity to learn more about the deep relationship between the artist and his or her medium and the process that ensues to create this work.  Both artists begin with the deconstruction process (sometimes just plain destruction) and revive their materials with new life.  From glass works to funky creatures, repurposed  furniture and animated driftwood, this show promises to engage the senses and mind.

Legacy International brings young Indonesian leaders to find inspiration for community projects at Building REsources

Matt Levesque, program manager of Building REsources, took a dozen young aspiring community leaders from Indonesia on a tour of the Building REsources facility to help inspire them for community projects at home.  The group was a media saavy bunch with smart phones and cameras to document the whole thing.  Legacy International is a nonprofit organization that generates citizen participation worldwide.  To learn more about their program please visit www.globalyouthvillage.org
